Anzac
Situated 45 kms southeast of Fort McMurray, Anzac is a community of 837 residents who enjoy a rural life style with easy access to Fort McMurray via paved highway 881 and Highway 63. A local elementary school offers K to Grade 8, with older students bussed to Fort McMurray. A restaurant, gas and liquor store offer services to residents and travelers on Highway 881. Recent developments in the oil sands industry have contributed to the growth and development of this thriving community.
Conklin
At the confluence of the Jackfish River and Christina Lake, Conklin is located 140 kms southeast of Fort McMurray offering its 372 residents a quiet lifestyle in a close- knit community. Local commercial developments include a gas bar, post office, store, camp, café and lounge catering primarily to the oil and gas industry. Two all season lodges offer accommodation to workers and tourists alike.
Draper
Historically an area where the railway passed through, Draper is an acreage lot development along the Clearwater River a few kms southeast of Fort McMurray. The 267 residents of Draper, including a few who live on the north shore of the Clearwater River, have only to travel a short distance to Fort McMurray for essential goods and services. The area is known for its small agricultural pursuits and market gardens.
Fort Chipewyan
Recognized as Alberta’s oldest community, Fort Chipewyan on the shores of Lake Athabasca is home to 1,016 residents. Heavily dependent on air transportation, a regional airport serves the community with regular scheduled service from Fort McMurray. Resource industries, government, a growing tourism industry and commercial/retail businesses are the major source of employment. Steeped in history, the quiet beauty and remote location are treasured by residents and visitors alike.
Fort Fitzgerald
The municipality’s most northern hamlet, Fort Fitzgerald is 25 kms from the town of Fort Smith in the Northwest Territories and 200 kms north of Fort Chipewyan. All commercial and social services for the 10 permanent residents are provided by Fort Smith.
Fort MacKay
55 kms north of Fort McMurray on Highway 63, Fort MacKay is home to 862 residents. The local elementary school provides K to 8 classes. The community is linked to Fort McMurray by a daily bus service. The primary employment source is the surrounding oil sands industry as well as seasonal forestry, hunting and trapping.
Gregoire Lake Estates
Adjacent to Gregoire Lake Provincial Park and Willow Lake, Gregoire Lake Estates is a country residential community located 32 kms southeast of Fort McMurray on Highway 881. There are no commercial developments for the 253 residents who travel to nearby Anzac or Fort McMurray for goods and services.
Janvier/Chard
This community, 100 kms south of Fort McMurray, is home to 194 residents whose homes are serviced with electricity, water, telephone and self-purchased propane. Oil sands and gas activity is increasing and provides employment opportunities to local residents. Commercial facilities include stores, gas bars and a construction company.
Mariana Lake
Entranceway to the Municipality, Mariana Lake is situated 100 kms south of Fort McMurray on the boundary lines of the Region.
Saprae Creek Estates
Built at the crest of the Clearwater River Valley, Saprae Creek Estates offers a quiet acreage lifestyle to its 864 residents. Housing varies from manufactured homes to estates, located on treed lots ranging from one to five acres. Saprae Creek Estates is 25 kms southeast of Fort McMurray and mere minutes away from the Vista Ridge Recreation facility.
